MAST Foundation for Photography Grant on Industry and Work.
The MAST Foundation for Photography Grant on Industry and Work is an international competition now in its fifth year, picking up the baton of the GD4PhotoArt competition.
The initiative aims to give voice to the photographic research of the new generation of artists by enriching the cultural offerings of the MAST Foundation with unprecedented insights related to young people’s outlooks on the themes of industry, technology, territory and labor.
Presenting the projects of the finalist photographers, this exhibition is the final act of the 2018 competition.
Mari Bastashevski, Sara Cwynar, Sohei Nishino, and Cristóbal Olivares shed light on four geographic and human realities that reflect the very rapid transformations taking place in the world economically and productively and their environmental, social, and ethical implications in the lives of each of us.
We must continually take note of how little we know about the world of product design, development, production, marketing and sales, how limited the circulation of images from these fields is.
By leaps and bounds, research, technology and finance have made our world abstract. All the more important and essential, then, does it become to visualize it: only by restoring it through images can we attempt to follow its paths, to understand the most radical aspects of digitization, the opening up of new realms, new knowledge, new materials and new financial models. And understanding the world is a primary and essential condition for the existence of an adult and responsible citizen in a free and democratic society.
The 2018 MAST Foundation for Photography Grant was awarded ex-aequo to Sara Cwynar and Sohei Nishino.
