LUIGI GHIRRI – Cartes et territoires.

“Luigi Ghirri. Cartes et territoires”
February 12 – June 2, 2019

After exhibitions at the Museum Folkwang and at the Reina Sofía Museum opens on February 12 at the Jeu de Paume in Paris “Luigi Ghirri. Cartes et territoires,” the first major international monograph dedicated to the Emilian photographer, organized by Museo Reina Sofía in collaboration with Museum Folkwang and the Paris institution.

“I did not want to make PHOTOGRAPHS, but MAPS, PLANS, which should be photographs at the same time.” (Luigi Ghirri)

The Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992) is one of the pioneers of European color photography. The exhibition curated by James Lingwood is based on the major retrospective, organized in 1979 along the lines of Luigi Ghirri’s work in Parma. About 300 photographs, divided into 15 groups of works, focus on the thematic spectrum to which Ghirri devoted himself in the 1970s.

The exhibition was organized by Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in collaboration with Museo Folkwang in Essen and Jeu de Paume National Gallery in Paris.
