“GRAND TOUR” by GIULIANO FERRARI

Project now available in our gallery!

In European culture, at least since the Renaissance, the trip to Italy it was a way to deal with the knowledge of the cultural models of reference: the ruins of antiquity, the great Renaissance painting, the landscape.

Travelling to know, therefore; and knowledge does not imply the simple view, but requires mental effort to observe critically to store, stimulates questions about the causes and consequences of things seen, it leads to compare their experiences with new knowledge.

Maybe, it is precisely the awareness of these opportunities that Giuliano Ferrari offers us today a photographic research on the same subject but with a title reminiscent, because since the eighteenth century the trip to Italy was known by the nickname of "Grand Tour", the "great trip" because of its importance and because it was a sustained commitment as a course of study and usually lasted a year, or sometimes even more.
