HUMA BHABHA
Maramotti Collection, February 26-April 15, 2012. HUMA BHABHA: “PLAYERS”. In the six sculptures from the mid-1990s as well as in the six new drawings made for the exhibition “Players,” Huma Bhabha reinvents the human head by deconstructing and reconstructing an archetype in which she collects and transforms different art-historical typologies. From the masks, “technological” portraits of archaic figures, to the drawings, which mark a return to an expressionist representation of fantastic faces, Bhabha draws inspiration from very different sources, tribal art, science fiction, combining them to arrive at a new kind of figuration and constructing the human face as a place where all expressive possibilities can be reached.
