ALBERT WATSON. Fashion, portraits & landscapes
ALBERT WATSON. Fashion, portraits & landscapes

From 7 April to 17 June 2018 on display at #Carpi photographs of the Blumarine archive

The exhibition, curated by Luca Panaro, conceived and produced by the Museums of Palazzo dei Pio, in collaboration with CFS Carpi Fashion System, Blumarine, with the contribution of Fondazione CR Carpi, presents a hundred images that cover a decade of work of ALBERT WATSON (one of the most important and influential photographers of our time), between the 1980s and the 1990s, when the Scottish photographer made twelve campaigns for the Carpi label.

The title of the exhibition, 'Fashion, Portrait & Landscape', clearly defines the areas within which his art has developed. In fact, Watson is universally recognized as one of the masters of fashion photography; With over 100 covers of Vogue and numerous campaigns for major world fashion houses, Watson has embodied the image of the elegance of recent decades.

On the other hand, the Scottish photographer is one of the greatest contemporary portrait artists; his shots to Keith Richards, Clint Eastwood, Barack Obama, Steve Jobs, just to name a few, have become real icons. The eye of the portraitist is also present in fashion campaigns, where, from Naomi Campbell to a very young Nadja Auermannfino to Cindy Crawford, the photographer represents the personality of women in her black / white.
Finally, the view on the landscape, even the urban one, which is never the background of the countryside, but characterizes the choices and the taste, becoming in many protagonists: from Scotland to the desert of New Mexico, up to London, Los Angeles and Naples.

With this initiative, Albert Watson returns to Carpi, a city with which he has made a special bond. Here, in fact, he worked by inserting himself into the communicative and image choices of the Blumarine carpenter brand, with a sophisticated allure. The photographs and books of these campaigns come from the company archive, as well as a video montage of all the images.
The exhibition will have an additional section in the Blumarine space of the City Museum, where some of the looks photographed by Watson are presented.
